In the Kröller-Müller Museum’s sculpture garden stands a sculpture that will only approach completion after several generations: the
EuropaHammer by the German artist Andreas Rimkus. In a hole in this 25-ton forged hammer head, he planted a ginkgo (Japanese nut tree) which will take at least 75 years to grow into the 'handle' of the hammer. In addition to the
EuropaHammer six other hammers have been installed, one on each contintinent. This book describes the creative process and the background to this truly global project.
